October 2010

This was another wedding we had been looking forward to for a very long time.  Melissa & Joe booked us it seems like forever ago and we had so much fun with them at their engagement session that we just knew their wedding would be crazy awesome.  And we were right!  They have been together since high school and when you are near them their happiness and excitement is infectious.  First, Melissa let her girls all pick out their own purple cocktail dresses and the result was absolute perfection.  Each girl had a shade and style that reflected them and everyone all together looked AMAZING.  I seriously loved it and loved her bravery and faith in her girls.  So Yay Melissa.  You rock.  And for Melissa herself…WOW she looked unbelievable.  Her dress was gorgeous and she went with some killer blue shoes for her something blue.  Again…loved it. Her make-up was flawless thanks to the talent of none other than one of our favorite make-up artists Tina Barbato from Flawless by Tina and hair was perfectly done by Bree and Stacey from Kylie & Co. The guys were so fun and we would expect no less as Joe is such a nice guy, of course his family and friends are too!  We also have to give a shout-out to Greg the groomsman for being in three weddings we photographed in the past few months.  He is a professional at this point so if any of you brides and grooms out there are short a groomsman give him a call : )  Melissa & Joe had a bit of a baseball theme because Joe plays professional baseball for the Baltimore Orioles… which meant personalized custom bats for the groomsman.  How cool is that?  And a super cool baseball groom’s cake done by Melissa at our favorite cake shop Make Me A Cake…Next Door.  After the ceremony in Troy we headed out to Saratoga National to get the party started.  Its always fun to get to drive the golf carts around too so while the cocktail hour got started we cruised around the course and had some fun.  The love between these two is so complete and so real that we have no doubt this day was just the first day of forever.

I LOVE getting ready shots.  Its that part of the day that is so filled with excitement and anticipation and yet its also a sort of calm moment.

This is the shot that every girl dreams of.  The moment these two saw each other was so emotional.  This is why i LOVE weddings!

I think this is my favorite of the day.  Pat suggested Joe dip Melissa and he just picked her right up and pretended to throw her over the bridge…but not before a kiss.  I love the shoes, the kiss, the light, the bridge, the wind.  LOVE it!

How cool is this groom’s cake?

We were so excited when actress Shannon Rafferty asked us if we would shoot some images to update her portfolio.  We usually spend the beginning of every session just making people comfortable and used to the camera but with Shannon we got to skip right to the fun part!  Of course she was a natural and so much fun to work with.  And where else would we go but Troy?  We sometimes wonder if we should stop photographing so many different things and just stick to weddings or kids or babies but it’s sessions like these that remind us how fortunate Pat and I are to be able to shoot so many amazing people in so many different situations.  It keeps us fresh and inspired and smiling…which is just how we like it : )

Courtney & Matt were married on a beautiful day at one of our favorite and this year’s most visited venues: The Canfield Casino.  We also had a chance to work with some of our favorites in the business including Alayne from Make Me Fabulous & Al Woodard of Al Woodard Films.  Courtney & Matt were both so much fun and so sweet and did the first look prior to their ceremony which as you know we LOVE!! Its even more important for our fall and winter brides who often get married after dark.  There is no way to re-create natural light and by having that amazing meeting earlier not only are we able to get the light and remove the time constraints but we are able to photograph the moment in an unobstrusive and unforgettable way. And for the bride and groom they can have all of their pictures done and just enjoy and be present for their entire wedding without missing even a minute of their cocktail hour.  We know they are probably looking forward to a little peek so here is one of our favorites!

Ainsley & Mackenzie

This was the first time we photographed these two very angelic looking little ladies and we sincerely hope we see them again soon.  They loved having their picture taken and were so polite and so sweet.  And they picked out all of their own outfits!  How cool is that?  And more importantly how cool is their Mom for letting them be themselves?   I can’t begin to tell you how refreshing and awesome it is to see Moms who truly want to capture who their children are right at this moment.  So Yay Amy and thank you Ainsley and Mackenzie for a very very fun afternoon!

Fall, for most people, means apple picking, leaf raking and pumpkin carving but for Pat and I fall means working absurdly long hours but getting to see some of our absolute favorite families who we have the honor of photographing every year.  The Gibsons certainly fall into that category.  Its amazing to think we photographed Jack & Annie when there were only two and then Joey when he was just born.  These little blondies make us smile every time we see them!  Their Mom trusts us completely to capture the images she wants to document her family year after year and their Dad is pretty cool too.  He just so happens to be in one of my absolute favorite bands…The Gibson Brothers!  And congrats to them for winning not one but two awards this year at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards in Nashville including Song of the Year.  Yay!  See you next year Gibsons!

Since Annie is the only girl we thought we would give her a little extra blog love!
